Janis Woodworking makes a large variety of functional wood art . The design ideas come from two influences, nature and art history periods such as, Art Deco and Art Nouveau. Joshua likes to echo nature's natural lines, curves, and stature while also challenging the raw and natural culture of wood by using different finishes, dyes, all to accentuate the natural grain and character in the wood. He also uses special techniques like steam bending to create out-of-the box bends in his work. You'll see that Joshua veers away from more traditional wood designs by introducing edgy angles and forms, integrating different materials, such as fine leather, ceramic, and metal, while using inlays and veneers.
